“Birds of a Feather Flock Together” - VSA State Championships 2018

And flock they did…..albeit more like seagulls in a rain storm that is! As they say, hold a gliding comp and you will get rain. Prediction held true. At least four days were achieved and a competition declared.

The Championship was held at Benalla from Sunday 9th December 2018 to Saturday 15th December 2018 inclusive.

There were two class groups – Un-Ballasted from which the Club Class championship was determined and Ballasted, from which the FAI class championship was determined.

Eighteen gliders competed in the competition which was fast, furious and fun. The safety officer, Peter Gray, congratulated all competitors on a safe and professional competition and was impressed with the way the pilots conducted themselves both in the air and on the airfield.

Entertainment was arranged by Louise O’Grady with “Johnny Cash” arriving to much applause and various musical items were played along with Lulu on the flute. A bit of impromptu dancing was also undertaken……no names, no pack drill though!

As follows, the Champions were presented with their trophies by Cr Danny Claridge from Benalla Rural City Council.

The Victorian Soaring Association congratulates the Gliding Club of Victoria and its volunteers without whom the competition would not have been a success, on holding a fun competition under some trying weather circumstances……But that’s gliding!! Roll on 2019.

Two videos, On the Grid and End of Comp of some of the highlights of the competition, can be seen on the GCV Facebook page!
